Bible Reading Plan (Friday 1-11-19)

Day 5 – Engage with other people

Our individual relationships with Jesus Christ are very personal. His love to us is personal. Our devotion to Him is personal. His guidance for us is personal, and our prayers to Him are equally personal.
But the Christian life is not meant to be one of personal interest only. In fact, most of the commands of Christ have far less to do with a “personal” relationship with Him and much more to do with a meaningful relationship with others. Following Jesus can bring us great personal transformation – but the path of following Jesus takes us on a journey of engaging with one another. We are not more engaged with God than we are with one another, and we are not loving God more than we are loving one another.

Proverbs 27:17
Iron sharpens iron,
and one man sharpens another.

John 13:34-35
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

1 Peter 4:8-11
8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
