Day 2 – Engage with Him
It’s possible to be faithful to religion and still keep your distance from God. If we learn the system, follow the rules, and repeat the right words at the right times we can appear to be a godly person. But God isn’t interested in how devoted we are to a system or tradition. He’s wanting us to be devoted to Him.
In all that He does, God is leading us to a point where we engage with Him. Not just for the sake of saving us from our sin, but for walking with us in all of our challenges and opportunities that life brings us. He will speak to us, instruct us, guide us, comfort us, and correct us. But we have to be willing to listen. And then we also have to be willing to obey.
Engaging with God means we will engage with His teachings and commands, and actively look for ways to carry them out. We maintain a relationship with Him for the sake of learning and understanding His will and purpose, and then carrying it out. The more engaged we are with Him, the more His will becomes a motivating factor in how we choose to live.
John 4:23-24
23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
John 8:12
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 14:12-14
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
John 14:23
Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
