Day 3 – Engage with His word

     There is often a huge gap between hearing and listening. There are times when it may be wise to not pay close attention to what we’re hearing, but in our closest relationships it would be unwise if we didn’t! The more we value a particular relationship, the more closely we need to listen to what is being said.
     That truth is even more critical when we apply it to listening to what God has to say. Just as we come to know our friends more closely by paying careful attention to what they have to say, we will come to a better understanding of God by giving our full focus to His word.
     There are no more important words for us to both hear and absorb than those that come from God. His words not only reveal the truth about Him, but also about ourselves. His words become a window that allows us to see reality, and then gives guidance on how to adjust to it. His words provide a perspective on reality that we won’t find anywhere else.
     If I want to engage with reality, I need to engage with the One who has full understanding of it. The best way for me to be prepared for the demands of reality is to be engaged with God’s word and give my full attention to what He has to say.

Psalm 119:9-16
9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
10 With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
11 I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O Lord;
teach me your statutes!
13 With my lips I declare
all the rules of your mouth.
14 In the way of your testimonies I delight
as much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts
and fix my eyes on your ways.
16 I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.

2 Timothy 2:15
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

2 Timothy 3:14-17
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
